Made to an Irish design, traps such as these will catch eels and small fish; anything that swims up the funnel and over the spikes will not get out again. The funnel is prick-randed to be as smooth as possible so as not to discourage eels. Although quite different in appearance from a Norfolk eel trap, the principle of operation is the same.
