Stake and strand baskets, as the name implies, make use of stakes, inserted into a base, around which strands are woven. Different weaves are used at particular points in the basket, which is finished by using the stakes to make a border. Many materials can be used to form the base and sides, including wood and bark, and the possible weaves include various forms of randing, slewing, waling, zigzag, herringbone and curly weave, illustrated in the baskets that follow.
